Functionally Specialized Unit
From AGIRI.org
A subsystem of a Mind that is devoted to some particular sort of activity, such as, e.g.
- Perception, either in general or focused on some particular Sensory Modality
- Short Term Working Memory
- Language processing
- etc.
Different minds may be divided into such units in different ways. This kind of division into units is a common and perhaps necessary feature of Modest Resources Minds, as Modularization is a generally powerful heuristic for increasing efficiency given limited resources.
The way a type of Mind breaks up into Functionally Specialized Units is known as its Cognitive Architecture.
