Inductive bias refers to knowledge that a mind is provided with at its creation, which helps it solve certain classes of Problems significantly better than it could have done without this knowledge.

Eric Baum, in his book What is Thought?, has argued that much of human intelligence consists of inductive bias provided via the genome. Chomsky made this same argument regarding language in particular, years ago. Baum's current work involves attempting to create AGI by combining fairly simple Learning and Reasoning mechanisms with human-coded modules serving the role that inductive bias is hypothesized to provide for humans.
