Quantum Gravity Mind

Roger Penrose and Stuart Hameroff have argued that human creativity and consciousness derive from quantum gravity effects in the human brain. (They choose quantum gravity rather than vanilla quantum theory because Deutsch showed that quantum systems cannot compute Turing uncomputable functions, and they want to argue that human intelligence is Turing uncomputable.)

See Penrose's book Shadows of the Mind.

It seems unlikely to most experts that either

  1. the human brain relies on weird quantum gravity effects
  2. quantum gravity will allow computation of uncomputable functions

but at the present stage these things are not known for sure.
