The concept, introduced by Marvin Minsky, that the mind may be viewed as a population of agents called Critics, each of which carries out some specialized function, and which collaborate to produce overall Cognitive action.

The Society of Mind theory comes along with a specialized vocabulary for describing aspects of AI systems and Minds in general, some of which are fairly standard (Frames) and others of which are more idiosyncratic.
